Yoga Philosophy & Benefits

Picture
Yoga is the union of the individual with the divine. Malasana means "garland" in Sanskrit. Malasana is one of my favorite asanas because of its physical benefits that reinforce the ankles, expands the chest, helps to keep the shoulders strong, massage the abdominal organs, improves digestion, and cures disorders in spleen, pancreas and liver. But what I love the most about this pose is that it cures and tones any misalignment of the spine. Malasana helps you to make decisions following the path of your heart, keeping you secure and confident.

The Eight Limbs of Yoga

1-YAMA
AHIMSA (Non-violence)
SATYA (Truthfulness)
ASTEYA (Respect for the Property of others)
BRAHMACHARYA (Celibacy – sexuality without vice)
APARIGRAHA (To be free from hoarding)

2-NIYAMA
SAUCHA ( Purity)
SANTOSHA (Contentment)
TAPAS
(Heat – Effort to achieve)
SVADHYAYA (Study of the self)
ISVARA PRANIDHANA - (Dedication to God)

3-ASANA
The Yogi conquers the body with continued practice of Asana
and transforms this body into a vehicle to guide his
soul.
The Yogi does not consider the body his property. He knows that the
Universe has loaned him this earthly form, and one day it will return to
it. What is important is the

spirit that resides inside.

4-PRANAYAMA
P
rana signifies
the life-force, energy, vitality. Yama signifies complete control,
extension and expansion. The fourth
limb of Yoga is Pranayama.

The goal is to calm the mind – '
yogas chita vrtti
nirodaha
'

5-PRATYAHARA
The 5th Aspect
of Yoga is interiorization; Pratyahara is the state we reach when we have
complete control of our senses.

6-DHARANA
The 6th aspect of Yoga, Dharana is concentration.

7-DHYANA
Yoga is Dhyana, Meditation

8-SAMADHI
The last and final limb of Yoga is Samadhi, where the Sadhaka (student) finds unity in all his studies and 'puts it all together'. The state of Samadhi is described as
'contemplation in the super-conscious state': it is the merging with God's Will

YOGA AND YOU
Yoga is an art you feel and perceive. Words do not exist to explain the
feeling of value of this art; it must be experienced as the art reaches beyond
the physical practice and communicates with the physical and energetic
aspects.
Yoga is an spiritual art, free of cost that helps you to find God in your interior;
God is not about physical or materialistic desire. No matter what can happen in
the outside world you will always possess your yoga practice.

PILATES BENEFITS

Pilates is a method of exercise developed by Joseph and Clara PILATES in the early 1930's in the United States of America, called 'CONTROLOGY.'

The Pilates method offers total health; it is a holistic approach to well–being and a lifelong process of refinement.

Although each and every human being has different capabilities, there is no doubt that the condition of the state of the body affects the mind and vice versa, not only in a physical plane but also in a attaining relaxation ,pleasure, and combating anxiety and depression.

1. COORDINATION – BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT

This is the driving goal of the method, as you integrate the exercise, the development of balance between body mind and spirit are established - the need of feeling the life force and balance - as a lifelong journey.

2. ACHIEVE NATURAL INNER RHYTHM ASSOCIATED WITH ALL SUBCONSCIOUS ACTIVITIES

As the practice become mastered, integrated Pilates becomes a part of the subconscious experience. This does not mean we do not put attention and concentration or awareness into the practice, it means that the movement pattern becomes imprinted in the muscle memory. Mastery doesn't come easily, it is the reward of consistent training over a long period of time, even years. This requires discipline, commitment and endurance, patience and joy, but ultimately this is the path to health. Joseph Pilates said: 'Return to health trough Contrology'. As the exercises become mastered, the subconscious reaction will reflect grace and balance in the daily routine of our lives.

3. APPLY THE NATURAL LAWS OF LIFE TO EVERYDAY LIVING

Many of the today's ailments and conditions are the response of the lack of the connection between humans and nature. Sitting at the computer many hours a day, watching television, overeating - without control, (often unhealthy food), extended periods driving the car, talking on the cell phone, etc., the body starts forming muscles in stagnating, unhealthy forms.
